Learning Objectives Add various components to a building model. Create stairs using the Stairs tool. Add railings to various locations in a project using the Railing tool. Understand the procedure of adding ramps to a building model. Add curtain walls with doors and mullions. Copy elements from one level to another.

 USING CURTAIN SYSTEMS IN A PROJECT Figure 26 Typical curtain system elements

Creating a Curtain Wall using the Wall Tool Figure 27 Selecting the curtain wall types from the Type Selector drop-down list

Figure 28 Curved curtain wall created along with the added curtain grids

Creating a Curtain Wall by Picking Lines Figure 29 A flat and a curved curtain system created using the Pick Lines tool

Creating a Curtain System on Face Ribbon: Home > Build > Curtain System Figure 30 Example of curtain systems created using the Curtain System tool

Adding Curtain Grids Ribbon: Home > Build > Curtain Grid Figure 31 Adding curtain grids to a curtain system by using the All Segments and the One Segment options

Modifying Curtain System Panels Figure 32 Example of different curtain panels added in a Curtain system Adding Doors and Awnings to a Curtain System

Adding Mullions Ribbon: Home > Build > Mullions Figure 33 Adding mullions to a curtain system using the Mullion tool

 COPYING ELEMENTS FROM ONE LEVEL TO ANOTHER Using the Paste Tools Paste from Clipboard Aligned to Current View Aligned to Picked Level Aligned to Same Place Aligned to Selected Views

 Tutorial 1 In this tutorial, you will add furniture and sanitary elements to the first floor level of the c07_Apartment1_tut1.rvt project created in Tutorial 1 of Chapter 7. The approximate location of components is shown in Figure 34. Figure 34 Sketch plan for adding furniture and plumbing components to the Apartment 1 project

The following steps are required to complete this tutorial: 1.Open the project file, invoke the Place a Component tool, and load the components from the additional libraries using the Load Family tool. 2.Add and position the components at their desired location in the building model using the Rotate and Move tools, refer to Figures 35 and 36. Figure 35 Adding a component to the building model Figure 36 Rotating the component using the Rotate after placement option

3.Extend the exterior walls to the 3’0” above the top most level, refer to Figure 37. Figure 37 Extending the exterior walls to the top most level

4.Select the doors, windows, floor, ceiling, and components, and copy them to all upper floors using the Aligned to Selected Levels tool, refer to Figure 38. Figure 38 Specifying levels to paste the selected elements

5.Create the roof of the top most floor using the Roof tool, refer to Figure 39. Figure 39 Completed multistory Apartment

 Tutorial 2 In this tutorial, you will modify the two walls of the Club project, created in Tutorial 2 of Chapter 7, into curtain walls and add mullions to all curtain grids, refer to Figure 40. Figure 40 Sketch plan for modifying the existing walls into curtain walls for the Club project

The following steps are required to complete this tutorial: 1.Open the c07_tut2_Club.rvt project file created in Tutorial 2 of Chapter 7. 2.Select the walls and modify them into curtain walls using the Type Selector drop-down list 3.Modify the vertical and horizontal spacing for curtain grids. 4.Add mullions using the Mullion tool, refer to Figure 41 and 42.

Figure 41 Selecting a curtain wall to add mullions Figure 42 South elevation of the club project showing the curtain wall created with mullions

 Tutorial 3 In this tutorial, you will open the Elevator and Stair Lobby project, created in Exercise 2 of Chapter 7 and extend the walls to 3’0” above the roof level. Copy all doors, windows, and components at the same location on all upper floors. Also, create a fl at roof for the stairs portion at the roof level. Add stairs to the project, based on the project parameters, as shown in Figure 43. Figure 43 Sketch plan for adding stairs to the Elevator and Stair Lobby project

The following steps are required to complete this tutorial: 1.Open the project file and extend the walls using the Top Constraint parameter. 2.Pasting the elements such as door, windows, floor, ceiling, and openings to the upper floors using the Aligned to Selected Levels tool. 3.Create the flat roof at the top most floor using the Roof tool, refer to Figure 44. 4.Add stairs to the project using the Stairs tool, refer to Figures 45 through 49.
