A Study of Joshua - Standing at the Crossroads of God’s Promise

“The Day God Made the Sun Stand Still” Joshua 10

(12) On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presences of Israel: ‘O sun, stand still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.

(13) So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies’, as it is written in the book of Jasha. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.

(14) There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a man. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel.

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. (The 2000 Baptist Faith and Message)

It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. (The 2000 Baptist Faith and Message)

All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation. (The 2000 Baptist Faith and Message)

Verbal Plenary Inspiration Verbal – Every Word of Scripture is given by God Plenary – Everything given to us in the Scripture is Authoritative Inspiration – Every Word is directly Inspired by God to Man

“Jesus answered, ‘It is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that come from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16

“Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:20-21

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” Mark 13:31

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” Matthew 5:17-18

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” Mark 13:31

If the bible is not divinely authoritative, then it does not need to be preached. But, if the Bible is divinely authoritative, then it must be preached.

The Bible must be accepted as a whole. We are not free to choose the parts that are divine to us. We do not make the Bible conform to our beliefs; we conform to the beliefs of the Bible.
