1 Michelle McCarty I am applying for the Lead Teacher Position at the STEM High School and Academy of Highlands Ranch.

2 Educational Philosophy My Strengths I pride myself on my intellect and others comment on it often I am dedicated and hard- working and try to give 100% to anything to which I commit I am very creative and innovative and apply that to any task that is set in front of me I consider myself to be honest and fair and have often heard that others agree What Staff Can Expect From Me That my strengths will be reflected in my actions and decisions as a member of the staff That I will collaborate on standards That I will share ideas and offer positive feedback as well as suggestions for improvement That I will ask for help and suggestions when I am in need What Students Can Expect From Me Respect and the expectation that it is returned Fairness, which is not always equal To challenge them in both age- appropriate and level- appropriate ways To be challenged to learn 21 st century skills to optimize their ability to be successful in our current global economy To make learning fun and relevant

3 Classroom Management Plan Consistency is Key to establishing trust and earning respect My ideal classroom will have the desks in a U-shape and we will be able to move them around for a variety of activities. The walls will be decorated with culturally relevant items from various Spanish-speaking countries. A large map of South America will be on the wall for reference. Various classroom monitoring jobs will be assigned to students and rotated throughout the year to encourage leadership skills. Examples include taking roll, collecting or handing out papers, checking assignments and getting objectives posted. Students will be greeted as they enter to build rapport and a more personal connection between students and myself. Class behavior and academic expectations will be discussed in the syllabus and signed by students and parents. These expectations will also be posted in the room and referred to as necessary. Class will start with a 10-15 minute warm up activity/exercise to review learned concepts from the previous day. Current lesson’s objectives will then be discussed as we enter the lesson for the day. Class will end with Q&A and an explanation of any necessary homework.

5 Effective Lesson Planning 1.Identify the Objectives based on the Standard being taught. 2.Plan the assessment and how you will use the results. 3.Plan relevant learning activities to teach and reinforce the Objectives. 4.Collaborate with other teachers to see if you can reinforce the standards that they are currently teaching as an aspect of your class activities. 5.Identify students’ roles in your lesson plan. Nationality Objectives Intermediate At the end of this lesson students will be able to accurately not capitalize nationalities when used as adjectives in the Spanish language and will be able to contrast the rules for nationality capitalization rules in English and Spanish. 5 min Students will brainstorm a list of various nationalities while I write them on the board in English. 10 min Students will look up each word from that list and report how to say and spell it in Spanish as I write them on the board. 15 min In small groups students will create “Yo soy___” and “Yo hablo _____” sentences using the nationalities. 5 min Volunteers will be asked to write example sentences on the board using proper capitalization. (Newman, 2013)
