1 USE OF MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATION TALWANT SINGH DISTRICT & SESSIONS JUDGE DELHI (EAST)

2 MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN COURTS Mobile Phone is a very powerful tool. It can be used in many ways to help to run Court administration more efficiently. Mobile can be of great help in disseminating information to Public at large. Mobile phone can be used to provide up to date information regarding court services to litigants and lawyers.

3 MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN COURTS CASE STAGE ALERTS The new CIS is in place in almost all the District Courts in the Country. It has a built in feature to generate SMS alerts at every stage of the case. SMSs can be sent to Litigants and Lawyers in advance to inform them about coming dates. Short proceedings by SMS can be also sent.

4 MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN COURTS REALTIME CAUSE LIST ALERTS Gone are the days when a lawyer had to come to Court well in advance to attend his case. Even Electronic Display Boards are going to be history. Now an SMS can be sent to the lawyer at least 10-15 minutes before his case is about to be taken up to enable his appearance in Court.

5 MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN COURTS BULK SMS FOR PUBLIC INFORMATION Normal cost of an SMS in bulk comes to about 4 paisa per SMS. User Data Bases are available with Govt. It can be used by Legal Aid Bodies to spread knowledge about various schemes of legal aid. Litigants can be informed about court holidays, judges on leave, court room change.

6 MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN COURTS VISITOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM In Karkardooma Courts, an untoward incident happened on 23 rd December, 2015. We have started paper based pass system for entry of litigants & I cards based for lawyers in Court Building. From 01.03.2016, litigants will be allowed entry only on the basis of SMS alerts received by them in Mobile Phones from DDCSMS.

7 MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN COURTS MOBILE AS A DICTATION TOOL Every mobile phone has recording facility. Judges can dictate judgments using this facility Audio files can be played on Computers or mobile phones by Stenos to type orders. Lengthy arguments can be recorded for reference while dictating judgments. No need for expensive hardware/ software.

8 MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN COURTS MOBILE PHONE AS A COMPUTER Smart phones have same processing power, RAM and Storage capacity as old computers. You can use them as scanners for documents. You can listen to any judgment or article on the internet with the help of a speaking software available free. You can search relevant judgments on mobile.

9 MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN COURTS WITNESS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Summons can be sent to witnesses on mobiles. Witness may send reverse SMS by typing Y if he is attending or N if not attending hearing. Cause list can be adjusted accordingly. Alert SMS can go to witness in advance if evidence recording is not possible on date fixed.
