7  How is the language of weather used to communicate ideas and information?  Examine the different language used by indigenous and non-indigenous teachers and the varied communication that takes place in the regular classroom and the Ab-ed room.  Investigate the language used to express love by particular song writers in two different genres or eras.  The extent to which various cooking shows and media have improved our understanding of cooking terminology.  How a second language is acquired and how bilingual status is maintained in a monolingual society  work place to ensure an increase in productivity and to create a more harmonious working environment.  How do the language choices used by individuals in the first person shooter PC game Team Fortress 2 influence the audience’s experience and impact on the overall success of the game?  How does the graphic novel series I, Vampire use language techniques to convey meaning to its target audience?  What is the nature and influence of the hybrid language used in Facebook culture in assisting in forming identity?

8  Hints  Avoid too broad a topic like the language of advertising, or IT or visual art  Clearly labelled: External Assessment Cover Sheet SACE number and accurate word count.  Successful work: clearly independent, good topic selection  analysis which was in-depth and examined how language changes to suit context, audience and purpose. They also were able to analyse how language was used and provided effective examples.
