2 2 Černikovský, Krejčí, Volná (ETC/ACM): Air pollution by ozone in Europe during the summer 2012 & comparison with previous years 17th EIONET Workshop on Air Quality Management and Assessment, Madrid, Spain, 25-26 October, 2012 Legislation Under Directive 2002/3/EC MS shall provide: monthly data: before the end of the following month information on the exceedance of –information threshold, 1h max > 180 µg/m 3 –alert threshold, 1h max > 240 µg/m 3 April – September data: not later than 31 st October –information on the exceedances of long-term objective for the protection of human health, 8h daily max > 120 µg/m 3 –1h monthly maximums for all stations

3 3 Černikovský, Krejčí, Volná (ETC/ACM): Air pollution by ozone in Europe during the summer 2012 & comparison with previous years 17th EIONET Workshop on Air Quality Management and Assessment, Madrid, Spain, 25-26 October, 2012 QA/QC on delivered information ETC/ACM, under the contract to the EEA, manages the monthly and summer ozone exceedances data flow. The basic syntax check on the delivered data is made by GDEM automatically and a quality report is generated directly in the CDR delivery envelope. The detailed check on inconsistencies & potential errors is made by ETC/ACC during data processing monthly. The data suppliers are asked to correct inconsistencies and errors, i. e. upload amended reports, in way of feedback reports in CDR. Complete list of stations operational during summer 2012 in summary file is appreciated.

4 4 Černikovský, Krejčí, Volná (ETC/ACM): Air pollution by ozone in Europe during the summer 2012 & comparison with previous years 17th EIONET Workshop on Air Quality Management and Assessment, Madrid, Spain, 25-26 October, 2012 Preliminary results Summary overview on 1-hour thresholds exceedances is published monthly. Following preliminary results are based on data received before 24 th October 2012, i. e. partly without September data. The information describing the situation during the summer is based on tentatively validated and non-validated monitoring data and hence should be regarded as preliminary (the level and extent of validation is not reported by the countries).

Target value - TV - is exceeded when the LTO has been exceeded at a particular station more than 25 times per calendar year, averaged over three years)

13 13 Černikovský, Krejčí, Volná (ETC/ACM): Air pollution by ozone in Europe during the summer 2012 & comparison with previous years 17th EIONET Workshop on Air Quality Management and Assessment, Madrid, Spain, 25-26 October, 2012 „Historical“ data... no changes? Annual changes in the database Every year changes in the published results – SOR data submitted during the summer season and data provided to the Airbase are not the same data sets. Adding historical data to Airbase E.g. during last year many historical O 3 value series were added.

However, temperature is clearly not the only predictor of ground-level ozone concentrations. Information threshold exceedances Number of days with 1-hour concentration > 180 µg.m -3
