2 Czech Hydrometeorological Institute 20-21 November 2008, Prague AQ reporting in the Czech Republic The measured data on air pollution concentrations are stored in the air pollution database of the Air Quality Information System (AQIS) during the calendar year. The data are checked and unreliable data are consulted both with data suppliers from CHMI branch offices and with outside suppliers (health institutes, municipal monitoring etc.).

3 Czech Hydrometeorological Institute 20-21 November 2008, Prague Based on the verified data the so called Tabular Yearbook is prepared in the first instance. The data files are generated automatically from the database in the form of a code suitable for the web. In this phase of data processing the remaining unreliable data stored in the database are detected in cooperation with data suppliers.

4 Czech Hydrometeorological Institute 20-21 November 2008, Prague The Graphical Yearbook is based on the constructed maps showing spatial distribution of individual pollutants’ concentrations on the territory of the Czech Republic and on the comparison of their level with the set limit values both for the protection of human health and for the ecosystems and vegetation.

5 Czech Hydrometeorological Institute 20-21 November 2008, Prague The materials from the two yearbooks represent the main source for the preparation of further reports on the state and development of ambient air quality in the Czech Republic, and mainly for the Czech Environmental Information Agency (CENIA) for the Environment Report, the Statistical Yearbook and for the regional reports on air pollution in individual regions, for the delineation of the areas with deteriorated air quality for the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic (MoE), for the Information on ambient air quality in the territory of the Czech Republic in the respective previous year, and for the assessment of the operation of the smog regulation systems in the summer period of the given year.

9 Czech Hydrometeorological Institute 20-21 November 2008, Prague National reporting towards European bodies In the summer period regular monthly reports on the exceedance of the limit values for ground-level ozone are submitted.

10 Czech Hydrometeorological Institute 20-21 November 2008, Prague At the end of September the so called Questionnaire is fulfilled with the records of the measured pollutants and measuring methods in the Czech Republic, of limit values exceedances and the target values for the protection of human health and ecosystems and vegetation, etc. The Questionnaire sums up the reporting obligations ensuing from the EU directives.

11 Czech Hydrometeorological Institute 20-21 November 2008, Prague The Questionnaire is fulfilled for the zones and agglomerations defined in the Czech Republic with regard to air quality assessment.

12 Czech Hydrometeorological Institute 20-21 November 2008, Prague At the end of September the measured data also are sent to the European database AirBase in the required format (http://www.eea.europa.eu/themes/air/airbase). The data are generated automatically from the AQIS database. The Czech Republic sends to the AirBase the concentrations of SO 2, NO, NO 2, NO x, PM 10, PM 2.5, CO, ozone, benzene, cadmium, arsene, lead, nickel and benzo(a)pyrene measured at the CHMI stations.

13 Czech Hydrometeorological Institute 20-21 November 2008, Prague The concentrations measured at the CHMI AMS stations are available on-line on the CHMI website www.chmi.cz/uoco in the form of graphs and tables. The so called air quality index is generated from these data for individual localities and presented as a table on the website. www.chmi.cz/uoco
