15 Millenials are moving on up & Gen Z has arrived! Incoming Gen Z: Born between mid 1990’s- early 2010’s (Williams, 2015) Social conscience and philanthropy define this group Implication for Planning: Revival/Increase of Service Learning Projects Disrupting the current paradigm by shedding the “narcissism” and “entitlement” of the Millenials (Williams, 2015) Understand hard work, willing to do it Implication for Planning: Not the “Selfie” type, social media presence more geared toward compassion, global-citizenry Also shedding the idealism that Millenials possess: generational feeling of “Innocence Lost” due to front row seat of recession/911

16 Desire long term employment with ethical employers who embody sustainable practices Entrepreneurial spirit tempered with risk aversion Work life balance, financial security, health benefits are priorities Implication for Planning: will they be “joiners” (clubs)? Are we offering the clubs they will want to join (social responsibility, sustainability themes, community philanthropy focused)? Digital Natives who prefer face to face interactions (ala Gen X parents): “Despite their natural inclination for technology, they prefer direct and personal communication like their parents. Having an appealing online presence is not good enough. They demand personal engagement if you want their attention” (Coetzee, 2015, para 9). Implication for Planning: maintaining face to face orientation; when online services provided, also have a person available to assist Millenials are moving on up & Gen Z has arrived!
