3.  People should contribute to the public wealth according to their ability, but receive according to their needs.  The means of production should be owned equally by the whole community  The proletariat (workers) throughout the world should work to overthrow capitalism - Revolutions.  Class should be destroyed and replaced by a society of equals.  The economy should be planned - controlled by the government.

Market Place  You will each be given a role card representing somebody living in Russia in the early 20 th century.  Imagine you have all met for a re-union in 1924  The aim is to introduce yourself to as many people in the room as possible to build up an overall picture of life in Communist Russia.

5.  Think about the following questions again.  Note down your ideas on the post-it notes.  Did life get better/ worse?  Which groups of people were least/ most affected?  What were the most significant changes?  What were the biggest problems?  How Communist was Russia at this time?

6.  Look at the evidence card.  Sort them into different groups – you decide what the groups should be. ( Try to be more sophisticated than simply “good” and “bad”!)
