2 True or false? In the envelope are 10 statements. Put them into two sections true and false.

3 Muslims face Mecca when they pray. Muslims must eat halal food. Many Muslim women in Britain choose to cover their face and wear a niqab. Muslim men should go to the mosque on a Friday. Women can go if they choose. A Muslim who breaks their fast during Ramadan should fast for another 30 days. True…

4 Muslim face the city where they were born when they pray. Muslims must eat kosher food. All Muslim women must cover their face. Muslim men and women must go to the mosque every day. A Muslim who breaks their fast during Ramadan will go to prison for 30 days. False…

7 Explain-What do the picture and the text tell us about being a Muslim in Britain? “I was born here, I’ve never been to Bangladesh. I certainly don’t feel Bangladeshi. So when they say, ‘Go back home,’ where should I go? wearing my niqab does not mean I do not want to part of British society, it means I am proud of my religion. 10 Being a Muslim… Being a Muslim means there are certain religious rules and customs you must follow. In the envelope there are cards with a list of these. Put them into order starting with the easiest to follow in Britain down to the most difficult to do.

11 Read the text… Each table has information on one aspect of Muslim life, from food to prayer. Read the text. Write a diary entry for that day based on the topic you have.

12 Swop… Swop diary entries with another person. Write a few notes or key words in the margin, of things you think they could add. Now go back to your entry, can you add more?

13 Hot seat a Muslim!. Write down two questions you would like to ask a Muslim about their religion.

14 The end… What skills have we learnt today? What new knowledge have we learnt today? How have we learned these things?

15 Homework… Homework Being a Muslim in Britain Dress Go onto the Newsround website.  Search “School girl banned for Muslim dress”.  Who is Sobia?  What has Sobia’s school said to her?  What did Sobia say in response?  How do you think Sobia feels?  Do you think the school is right or wrong in its action? Why?
