2 There are eight clauses in ISO 9001:2000.  Clause 1- Scope  Clause 2- normative reference  Clause 3 – Terms and definitions  Clause 4 – Quality management system (QMS)  Clause 5- Management responsibility  Clause 6 – Resource Management  Clause 7 – Product realization  Clause 8 – Measurements, Analysis and improvement

3 Clause1 1. Scope  1.1 General -This International Standard specifies requirements for a quality management system  1.2 Application -All requirements of this International Standard are generic and are intended to be applicable to all organizations, regardless of type, size and product provided.

4 Clause2 2. Normative reference  The following normative document contains provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this International Standard. -For dated references. -For undated references.

5 Clause 3 3. Terms and definitions  The term "organization" replaces the term "supplier"  The term "supplier" now replaces the term "subcontractor".  Wherever the term "product" occurs, it can also mean "service".

6 Clause 4 4. Quality Management System  4.1 General requirements -The organization shall establish, document, implement and maintain a quality management system and continually improve its effectiveness in accordance with the requirements of this International Standard.

Quality Management System  4.2 Documentation requirements  4.2.1 General  4.2.2 Quality manual -The organization shall establish and maintain a quality manual  4.2.3 Control of documents -Documents required by the quality management system shall be controlled. Records are a special type of document and shall be controlled according to the requirements given in 4.2.4.

8 Clause 4 4. Quality Management System  4.2.4 Control of records -Records shall be established and maintained to provide evidence of conformity to requirements and of the effective operation of the quality management system. -Records shall remain legible, readily identifiable and retrievable.
