Over the past years, I have seen many of them growing in the saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. While the majority of them returned to their home countries after graduation, some have stayed and are actively serving in the mission field. It is always a great joy to work with young people. Although the process can be painful and frustrating at times, but by God’s grace we do get to see signs of their growth towards maturity both physically and spiritually. Young adulthood is a critical juncture in human life when significant relationships are often developed and cemented. It is inevitable that young people will fall in love. And when they have found the love of their lives, they exhibit such an aura of excitement that affects everyone around them. Recently, I was involved in officiating a wedding for a young couple and counseling another couple to prepare for marriage. So there was a sense of “love in the air” at the COCM Mission Centre. I must say that other than knowing Jesus, getting married is the most important event in my life. Like many young people, I met my wife when we were overseas students on the same university campus nearly 30 years ago and we got married right after my college graduation. Later in March, we will celebrate our anniversary and give thanks for the amazing grace and abundant love God has poured down on our marriage for more than a quarter of a century. The journey of our marriage is parallel to our journey as followers of Christ. Our love for each other has grown over the years, much like our love for the Lord. Noisy emotions gradually give way to quiet understanding; words of promise slowly turn into action of commitment. Our marriage is strengthened as we grow in love and mature in Christ. In his book, *The Four Loves*, C. S. Lewis points out that we must learn to love with charity, the love of God. This is the agape love that goes beyond attraction and fondness. It goes beyond friendship and family ties. It is the sacrificial love that goes beyond human capacity. “This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us” (1 John 4:10-12). In this season of Lent, let us set aside time to reflect on the greatest love that God has for us through Jesus Christ. May we draw closer to the Lord and rely on the love He has for us to love one another.
