Atmosphere is divided into 4 layers. The layers of the atmosphere are based upon temperature changes.

Troposphere(where you live)
Stratosphere(contains the ozone layer)
Mesosphere(meteors burn up here)
Thermosphere(satellites orbit Earth): Includes areas called the ionosphere and the exosphere

4. Layers of the Atmosphere
Troposphere Most of Earth’s weather occurs in this layer. Temperature decreases as altitude increases. Density is the greatest in this layer of the Earth.

Stratosphere
The ozone in this layer absorbs Ultraviolet radiation.
The absorption of the UV light actually increases the temperatures in this layer.
Ozone layer is not constant. Changes began to be noticed in the ozone above Antartica in the 1970’s.

Thermosphere Includes the exosphere which does not have a specific outer limit. ---Satellites orbit space in this layer of Earth’s atmosphere. Includes the ionosphere which is an area of charged particles.
