2 Welcome Workforce overview What today’s forum is about

3 March 2010 - Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act 1981 (DPCS) amended to authorise registered nurses who are endorsed by law to supply/administer Schedule 2,3,4 or 8 poisons approved by the Minister. On 16 April 2012 Ministerial approval was gazetted authorising endorsed nurses to use or supply medicines for nursing practice in approved rural health services. This endorsement is part of the rural Collaborative Practice Model (CPM) which comprises of a: participative approach to developing the model of care; collaborative team approach to care delivery; clinical and corporate governance framework. 4 Policy Framework Specifies the minimal requirements of health services and nurses for the endorsed nurse function to operate Provides guidance on: –Collaborative Practice Model (CPM) –Overview of relevant legislation –Clinical governance elements –Service support and financial considerations –Monitoring and evaluation of the endorsed nurse function

5 Toolkit Practical guide to support establishment of the rural CPM and endorsed nurse function The toolkit provides: –a description of rural CPM –an overview of managing introduction of the role –information on organisational requirements to support safe practice –resources and tools
