Takeover by the Austro-Fascist regime in 1934 Liquidated in 1938 by the Nazis Re-established in 1945 Elections every 5 years Federal Chamber of Labour Federation of Trade Unions Economic Chamber Chamber of Agriculture Represents the interests of more than three million workers and employees in Austria – about 600.000 in Upper Austria Amongst others: Employment & welfare Distributional fairness Labour relations and employment rights Education and lifelong learning Social Europe Compatibility of family and job Consumer interests Shaping Globalisation

5 5 Bridging the gap Various coachings for “Dropouts” differentiating between compulsory education, apprenticeship, NEETs and higher education Project ‘Du kannst was’ in Upper Austria via recognition of competences to a completed apprenticeship Grant to be become a qualified worker ‘Fachkräftestipendium’, 795 €/month for VET, max. 3 years, various VET possible – defined by Public Employment Office Austria Educational Leave for VET: ‘Bildungskarenz’ (full time) for max. one year and ‘Bildungsteilzeit’ (part time ) for max. two years for any further education or training, employer has to agree New Skills: governance board (amongst others social partners) – standing committees – occupational experts cluster – VET institutions  special trainings for unemployed – since 2012 also employee cluster. Target group to be extended
