Thomas Dudley : Served as governor of the colony at times and founded Newtowne, now known as Cambridge. King Charles I : Granted the 1629 charter to found a second colony in the Massachusetts area. John Underhill : An early English settler who was hired by the colony as a captain to train their militia William Blackstone : Invited Puritans to live with him in Massachusetts.
