43 REMAIN IN SCHOOL & LEAVE WITH LEVEL 3 DESTINATIONS? 18 REMAIN IN SCHOOL & LEAVE WITH LEVEL 2 DESTINATIONS? 16 DON’T REMAIN IN SCHOOL & LEAVE WITH LEVEL 2 DESTINATIONS? FOR EVERY 100 STUDENTS THAT ENTER YEAR 9 23 don’t get into this picture! They have already gone... 29 ENTER LEVEL 7+ DIRECTLY FROM SCHOOL Notes: By age 24 around 25% of the Level 7 cohort are likely to gain a degree 5 Years after leaving school a total of 38/100 are likely to have tried level 7+ After each year 3 are likely to leave without completing their qualification

Purpose of Level 3 Pathways Provides continuity of progression from Level 2. Extends lines of sight beyond school. Provides broader opportunities for all students, although primarily aimed at students who have turned 16 and have NCEA Level 2. Supports more specialised decision making from Level 3. Level 3 information includes: Level 3 achievement standards mapachievement standards map Levels 3-7 qualifications map profile builder includes Level 3 achievement standards profile builder

Partnerships improve Level 3 curriculum choices Different ways of achieving NCEA Level 3. Concurrent part-time enrolment in school and tertiary or industry training. Coherent curriculum combines national curriculum with industry learning. Learn while earning with an employer, while still at school. Explore tertiary study while still at school.

Partnerships at Level 3 making better use of current mechanisms Use of current funding mechanism such as STAR and Gateway. Students can be concurrently enrolled part-time, with time split across weeks or in other blocks Regional pathways developed to support learners to employment with further study or industry training

What is 3+2? 3+2 approaches show ways in which the Level 3 Vocational Pathways could be implemented using a multiple partnership approach. The ‘3’ and ‘2’ in ‘3+2’ refer to the amount of time students spend at school or in another setting – in this case three days at school and two days elsewhere. These times aren’t fixed; the split and organisation of time can be structured in whatever way suits the learning needs of the student.

What are some examples of 3+2? Taieri College and industry training Students attend school for three days per week (or in a block if this suits the industry better) with their school courses designed around their agricultural interest. For the remaining time they work in an agricultural setting of their choice, including dairying, sheep/beef, horticulture or forestry. Employers and students see the value of on-job experience leading to possible employment opportunities down the track. The school principal credits the supportive community with making this offering a possibility.

Qualifications and Employment Mapping tool The Qualifications and Employment Pathways (QEP) mapping tool is an online tool that can be used to help plan employment and qualification pathways. The tool enables users to: search for jobs explore qualifications identify next steps using current qualifications explore the Vocational Pathways identify appropriate entry and exit points across different levels of the qualifications framework.
