1. Workforce Investment Act (WIA) How will this help my youth?

The History and purpose of WIA In 1998 The Workforce Investment Act was passed to replace the “Job Training Partnership Act” Enacted during Bill Clinton's second term, it represented an attempt to induce business to participate in the local delivery of Workforce Development Services. Today, WIA funds can be used to fund workforce education and career pathways programs. Ganzglass E. (2010). The Bottom Line  WIA is a program designed to assist low income youth ages 14-21.  Teach youth to develop personal, decision making, job attainment, job survival and beginning occupational specific skills.  The services are delivered by a dedicated Case Manager who supports youth through the development of a College & Career Blueprint.

4. Requirements  Youth must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident  Youth must meet WIA income eligibility guidelines  Youth must have a photo I.D.

5. The Process  Meet with a case manager and complete intake documentation  Bring required documentation and complete “College & Career Blue Print”  Coordinate activities to assist in achieving goals  Obtain employment and exit program

7. College & Career Blueprint  This document is used to map goals and activities/resources needed to reach those goals.  This document is completed by youth reviewed monthly to gauge progress.

Occupational Skills Training  Youth can select a trade school, community college or university and $3,000.00 can be applied to their education after financial aide.  How to qualify  Youth must currently enrolled in a WIA program  The schools must be approved and listed on Arizona Job Connection  The occupation must be considered "in demand”.

11. Work Experience Program  The opportunity to work in an “in-demand” occupational field and get paid By WIA minimum wage up to 200 hrs.

13. Exit and Follow-Up  This phase is demonstrated by a completion of all goals, a riddance of major barriers, and a development of positive coping/problem skills to be used when future hindrances arise.  The youth will be followed for 1 year after exit from the program.
