2 BACKGROUND  Counterfeit Goods Accounts for 5-7 percent of world trades in 2006 ; totaling $600 Billion.  Threatens the economies of developed and developing countries..  Counterfeit Revenues continue to increase 100 fold.

3 OVERVIEW  Using your mobile device to identify counterfeit product goes one step beyond visual inspection and security labeling. This can help to restore the brand name and problem or complaints that may arise from customers whom may have brought defective goods.

4 FINDINGS  Visible security features can be replicated. A technique using Watermark-RFID based self-Validation system, where a hidden hologram is used and is read by a mobile device to check the barcode against the hologram to determine if the product is counterfiet.

5 DISCUSSION  Before a customer purchases a product, it is scanned with a mobile device, like an iPad, or cell phone. This will check it against the existing database using a nonvisible hologram which then cross checks it against

6 CONCLUSION  Counterfeiting is a profitable business and is continuing to rise. As criminals become more proficient, the technology have to adapt to identify the counterfeit products. A new technique, known as WARDS can combat this issue by covertly uniquely identifies each product making it more difficult to duplicate.
