2 Basic Information Greece is a country of 11.4 million people in Europe. Capitol is Athens. It is made up of 13 city-states. East Macedonia & Thrace, Central Macedonia, West Macedonia, Epirus, Thessaly, Central Greece, West Greece, Ionian Islands, Athens, North Aegean, Crete and Peloponnese. In Greece, the GDP per capita (purchasing power parity US$) is 19,000. The GDP (purchasing power parity, US billions) is 251.1 The unemployment rate is 9.2%

4 Religion & Economy In Greece 97% of the population celebrate with the Orthodox Religion, whilst Muslim, Roman Catholic and Jewish make up most of the remaining Religion. Greece and Russia are the only countries to adapt to the Orthodox Religion. Which forms the largest branch of Christianity outside of the Roman Catholic church. The Orthodox Religion is said to have roots in history from he time of Constantine the great, who, it is purported saw a vision of the cross. For the year as a whole, the Greek economy measured in 2005 euros, fell to 168.5 billion euros, down 6.4 percent from the previous year. That was a little better than the 7.1% decline in 2011. The last time the Greek economy was smaller than in 2012 was in 2001. The cumulative decline since 2007 was 20.1%.

5 Imports & Exports The balance of Greece trade had been negative, however ever since Greece joined the EU and gave up restrictive trading measures, tings have started to look up. Albeit with still a negative balance. Greece has been a traditional exporter of food, beverages and textiles, Most of it’s trading partners are located in the EU. US being the external trade partner. In 2009, the economy suffered. They went from $29.14 billion in 2008 to $18.64 billion in 2009. Greece exports: Food and beverages, Manufactured goods, Petroleum products, chemicals and textiles. Imports: Grain, Timber, Ivory, Minerals and glass.

6 United Nations in Greece Greece is a member of the United Nations. Greece’s non-permanent UN security council membership ends December 31 st, leaving positive impressions, for it’s consensus and responsible stance.

7 Greek Money In Greece, their currency is worth more than United States Dollars. 5 euros is equal to about $6.37, 10 euros is equal to $12.73, and 50 is equal to $63.66. 1 EURO EQUALS 1.30677 United States Dollars. Greece is considering switching back to Drachmas although, Greece fears switching back to Drachma will create panic for businesses and also people wanting to do business with Greece. DRACHMAS EUROS

8 Greek Government Hellenic Republic is a parliamentary government. The Prime Minister is head of government. Legislative power is exercised by parliament and the president of the Republic. General elections are normally held every four years unless the Parliament is dissolved earlier. The electorate consists of all Greek citizens who are 18 years of age. The President is Karolos Papoulias. The Prime Minister is George Papandreou.
