The 3 Minute Research Project (3MRP) is a presentation contest where graduate students explain their –Thesis Research, –Dissertation Research, –Capstone Research, or –Creative Work And it’s significance In a face-to-face presentation to an intelligent, non- specialist audience in three minutes with the aid of one stationary slide www.nau.edu/3MRP

3 CLICK TO EDIT MASTER TITLE STYLE B ACKGROUND Draws from 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) ® –Developed by University of Queensland in 2008 3MT® is a form of research aimed at “developing academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of research students’ capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes in a language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience.” NAU’s 3MRP will allow students to –Communicate the significance of their research/creative work –Use easily understandable language for an intelligent, non-specialist audience –Present thesis, dissertation, or non-thesis capstone research OR creative work

6 CLICK TO EDIT MASTER TITLE STYLE V ALUE OF THE 3MRP Develops academic skills –Consolidate ideas –Summarize research discoveries in 3 minutes –Use audience-appropriate language Develops presentation skills –Present face-to-face –Capacity to present to different audiences Develops research communication skills –Present clear and concise, yet engaging and convincing information and its significance Increases understanding, appreciation, and interest around research/creative work at NAU Graduate students from ALL academic programs are encouraged to participate

7 CLICK TO EDIT MASTER TITLE STYLE E LIGIBILITY Master’s and Doctoral students in good standing who have made substantial progress on research and analysis or creative work related to their academic program Students must not have graduated prior to March 1, 2014 Students must be enrolled at time of entry but may still compete if they submit their thesis or dissertation for examination prior to conclusion of the competition in April 2014 Doctoral and Master’s students who have defended but have not graduated are eligible Presentations must be based on research directly related to the student’s thesis, dissertation, creative work, or current research capstone project. –Research related to paste or current employment should not be presented All competitors will be required to agree to be videotaped and to media exposure for their presentation and research.
