2 PHILOSOPHY Christian County Public Schools believe that preschool is an extremely important time in the life of a young child.

3 …first friendships are established. …independence is acquired.

4 Christian County Public School System Preschool Program also believes that young children learn best through actual “hands-on” experiences (play).

5 The following domains are targeted in the preschool program: · LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION · COGNITION · SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL · MOTOR · SELF-HELP

6 The Christian County Public Schools Preschool Program also recognizes that each child is unique with differing personalities and rates of development.

7 ELIGIBLITY Christian County Public Schools offers preschool services for children who meet the following requirements: 1. Children whose 4th birthday occurs by August 1st of the current school year and the child either demonstrates a delay in development or meets the Preschool Income Guideline, 160% poverty level. 2. Children who have had their 3rd birthday and demonstrate a delay in development.

8 SPECIAL SERVICES Special education services are available for those children who are eligible for such services. Services can include but are not limited to: Developmental Services Physical Therapy Occupational Therapy Speech-Language Therapy Transportation

9 TRANSPORATION Transportation is provided for eligible students. Special transportation is available if needed. A second adult/monitor is present on all preschool buses. Hand to hand transport is mandatory. Pick up points may be utilized. CLASS SIZE Teacher-Student ratio is no more than 1:10. A teacher and an assistant are assigned to each class. Therapists are often in the classroom to deliver services for children who qualify. MEALS Breakfast or lunch is provided while students are at school. Currently, meals are provided in Christian County at no cost to parents.

10 PARENT INVOLVEMENT Home school communication is encouraged through: News letters Phone calls Home visits Parents may also volunteer in the classrooms after completing a background check.

11 TYPICAL PRESCHOOL HOURS Monday – Thursday Morning session is 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. Afternoon session is 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

13 Preschool Numbers As of 1-13-16 286 Total Enrollment 40 - 3 year olds with IEP 93enrolled with a disability 193 4 year olds at risk 23 sessions of preschool a day. We are 67 students below last year’s preschool enrollment.
