3 How Funding Works After applications are submitted, the Standing Committee on Independent Team Funding meets. The Standing Committee includes the VP of National Competitions, VP of Finance, and two 2L MCHB members. We are permitted to allocate up to $1,000 to each team. The amount you receive is dependent on the number of teams that apply. MCHB cannot guarantee that each team will receive $1,000.

4 How Funding Works I will send you an email if you are awarded any funds. We plan to accept applications for a second round of funding in Spring Quarter 2016 if we have any remaining funds. The funding process is detailed in Rules 310 and 311 of the MCHB bylaws. The bylaws can be found here.here

5 Reimbursement Independent team funding is a reimbursement based system. Submit a reimbursement form to mchbfin@uw.edu, or drop off a form at the MCHB office (Room 129).mchbfin@uw.edu Reimbursement forms are available in the MCHB office. Taylor Sproed, VP of Finance, will process the form.

9 Application Description of Competition. Include the competition’s name and date, due dates for any writing requirement, subject matter, location, and the name and contact information for all team members. Letter from Coach. All teams must have a coach. Coaches may be a faculty member or attorney, and must be available for training as well as critique at practice sessions. Coaches must write a brief letter of recommendation for the team, emphasizing the team’s qualifications. Competition Preparation Plan. Include a detailed plan of the following: – A preliminary schedule for completing any writing requirement. – A preliminary schedule for oral argument practice rounds. Itemized List of Anticipated Expenses. Include registration fee, travel costs, and other relevant expenses. Full Disclosure of Other Possible Funding Sources. This disclosure need not include the personal resources of team members or their families.

10 Deadline The deadline to apply for independent team funding is Friday, October 30 th by 5:00 PM.

11 Hours Requirement In exchange for MCHB funds, we require each team member to volunteer six hours at MCHB events. This requirement is traditionally satisfied by grading briefs for the HCMP 1L Appellate Advocacy Competition. Academic credit for competition participation will not be awarded until this obligation is satisfied.
