6/24/2016 Chinese Mathematicians ——By Chinese Group

6/24/2016 There are lots of Mathematicians in China. Some of them lived in ancient China, others are still alive. Now our group will introduce some Chinese Mathematicians to you.

There are five of us: Peter, Mike, Kaka, Yuki and Lily. Finally , let’s meet our group members!

6/24/2016 O This is Lily, monitor of a 50-student class. She works hard on all subjects, and is good at organizing activities. She learnt ballet when she was a little girl. But now, she often plays tennis. Does she want to be a dancer and athlete? we don’t know~(maybe we can vote for it~~)

6/24/2016 Here comes Yuki, an elegant and active girl who is crazy about study. She is musical. She dances, plays the piano and Chinese zheng. She is hard-working. Maybe she is studying When you read this introduction.

6/24/2016 This is kaka, the football and basketball player among us. He is the most outgoing person of the five. I think he is still a little childish, for he likes cartoon very much. We all love to play with him because of his sense of humor. He is always very energetic and of bon appetite~~~~

6/24/2016 Haha~ This is Peter Bean, an amazing person. He can fly like superman. And he tells jokes~ He is a fair judge because his star sigh is Libra. When Kaka fights with Yuki, Peter jumps in to help Yuki asap. (poorKaka···) Peter likes playing basketball best and he wants to be a basketball player in the future. When you read this introduction, maybe he is playing basketball or playing computer games~~

6/24/2016 This is Mike. He is very shy.He is afraid of speaking in front of people. He doesn't like sports. But he studies very well. He is only active when he chats with friends. What a strange boy! He always looks sleepy as he can't sleep well. When you are reading this introduction maybe he is standing in the classroom, because he is too shy to answer the teacher's question.

Questions -Maths

10

If you continue the given number pattern, in what row and in what position in that row will the number 320 be? 1 -------------- row 1 2 3 -------------- row 2 4 5 6 -------------- row 3 7 8 9 10 -------------- row 4 The answers are given in the order of row ; position.

6/24/2016 Do you know what this is ? Yes! It’s π. We use it to figure out the area of a circle. Now let us tell you about a Chinese Mathematician who did great work about it.

6/24/2016 The Chinese Mathematician ——Zu Chongzhi( 祖冲之) He’s a famous mathematician. He’s the first person who in history, made out the π to seven dights after the radix point. He had writtern a wonderful book about maths called ‘Zhui Shu’ (缀术).

6/24/2016 Look at this ! Can you guess what it is about? It’s Pascal's triangle. But it is called ‘Yanghui Triangle’ in China. Named after the Chinese Mathematician Yanghui who found it hundreds of years ago.

6/24/2016 The Chinese Mathematician ——Yanghui( 杨辉) He’s a Mathematician, an educator and a clean-fingered official. He found Pascal's triangle. He’s one of the best mathematicians in Song Dynasty ( 年代? ).

6/24/2016 Something about Pascal's triangle Every number in each line is symmetry. The numbers begin with 1.Then get bigger, afterwards smaller again. And end with 1,too. The nth line has nth numbers. The sum of the nth line is 2^(n - 1). Each number equals to the sum of the two numbers above. Use this expressions we can get the whole Pascal‘s triangle.

6/24/2016 The Chinese Mathematician ——Hua Luogeng Hua Luogeng died on June 12, 1985 during his lecture tour in Japan at the age of 75. Hua Luogeng (1910-1985) was a famous Chinese mathematician, and an academician of China Academy of Sciences. He was born on December 11, 1910 in Jintan, Jiangsu Province. After graduation from Jintan Junior High School, Hua Lougeng taught himself diligently. He began to teach in Tsinghua University from 1930. In 1936, Hua Luogeng visited and studied in Cambridge University in England. Back home, he continued teaching in the Southwest Associated University. In 1946, He went to the United States, beginning research work in universities such as Princeton. He went back to China in 1950. In the following years, he served as a professor in Tsinghua University, CAS Institute of Mathematics. Do you know who he is? He’s Hua Luogeng( 华罗庚).

6/24/2016 Hua was the founder and pioneer of many fields in PR China's mathematical research. He wrote more than 200 theses and monographs, many of which have become classic documents of immortal value. Besides pure mathematics research, Hua also did a lot of work in the fields of mathematics applications. He made the mathematics serve the national economy and became the first Chinese scientist who closely combined the mathematics theoretic studies and practical production, and obtained enormous economic results in many fields.

6/24/2016 Now, Do you know something more about Chinese Mathematicians? We think all the Mathematicians in the world are great people, they help the world communicate in the language of science. Overall, we are grateful to them for the progress in mathematics!
