4 Defining the Role of the Team Leader Why are teams necessary? Teams allow individuals to combine their efforts in unique ways to achieve a common goal. For the most part in the team concept, individual strengths are maximized and weaknesses are minimized. How do team leaders enhance teamwork? Not all teams are successful. Personality conflicts, lack of expertise, and poor guidance can derail any team’s effort. The team leader provides guidance, direction, and motivation to team members. Leaders can also serve as a focal point for feedback from team members and outside sources. 4 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2013. All rights reserved.
