6 In the US, a college is an institution where students study for four years to earn a bachelor’s degree. A university also has graduate programs where students study further for a master’s degree or a doctorate. A community college has two-year programs which lead to an associate degree. Because the cost is lower, some students first earn an associate degree at a community college and then transfer to another college to complete the work for a bachelor’s degree.
