Welcome to Thanet Clinical Commissioning Group What is a CCG? What are commissioning responsibilities? Our vision Our strategic goals

Clinical Commissioning Groups Clinical commissioning groups are groups of GPs that will, from April 2013, be responsible for designing local health services In England. They will do this by commissioning or buying health services and integrating withe care services Clinical Commissioning Groups will work with patients and healthcare professionals and in partnership with local communities and local authorities to provide the best outcome for the local populations All GP practices will have to belong to a Clinical Commissioning Group.

Responding to health needs GPs are responsible for commissioning services to meet the needs of the local population What do GPs consider are the main areas for priority?

GP priorities – 7 main areas (1) Tackling problems caused by drugs and alcohol Providing more services at your local surgery Improving support to Thanet’s elderly population Long term conditions e.g. diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease

GP priorities – 7 main areas (2) Community, GP practice and social care teams working in a more joined-up way Improving mental health More patients able to access beds in the community rather than in hospital for long term continuing care
