9 Texas Revolt 1820: Mexico urged American citizens to settle in Texas (Why?) -Settlers arrived by the 1000s -Pledged to follow Mexican law Problems Arise: -The population grew rapidly -Conflict of opinion( Religion and Slavery) -Settlers wanted self rule - Mexico refuses

10 Texas Revolt / Mexican War 1835: Stephen Austin encouraged revolt -Santa Anna and army thwart the rebellion -Mexican victory at the Alamo Battle of San Jacinto -Santa Anna is defeated by Sam Houston (630 Dead in 18 min) -Forced to sign over Texas -Sent back to Mexico with a message -Ousted from power in 1836 (first time)
