Learning from our Mistakes

Read Pages 69-84

4. Write a few sentences about the results you get from making mistakes. 3. Write a few sentences about what you typically do when you make a mistake. 2. Write a few words on how mistakes make you feel. 1. Write a few words on how you see mistakes.

1. Take out a blank piece of paper 2.Fold the sheet in ½ so it has a top and bottom ½ 3.Open it up and in the top ½ write down a mistake that you have made…a significant mistake. (no one will see this) 4.Close the paper and set it aside.

Responses to mistakes Many times, when we make a mistake others respond to us after the mistake has been made…Within your pod, share how the primary people in your life generally respond to your mistake making. Be prepared to share some examples! WHO ARE SOME PRIMARY PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE

Refer to the “flashlight story” on pg. 70 If you were Michael, what would you learn from this experience? If you were Michael and knew you would make a mistake in the future, what would you do the next time you make a mistake?

Refer to the “Popcorn Story” on page 71. If you were Paul, what would you learn from this experience? If you were paul and knew you would make a mistakes in the future, what would you do the next time you make a mistake?

Our responses to mistakes When we respond to mistakes by denying, blaming, dwelling on or justifying we are likely to repeat our mistake over and over again. Is there a mistake that you are making or have made several times?

Take out that piece of paper you wrote a significant mistake on… Look at the mistake that you wrote down. On the other ½ write the lesson that life was trying to teach you from that mistake. Now rip the paper apart as to split up your mistakes and your lesson…

Which half do you think top 20’s hold on to and which half do you think bottom 80’s hold on to? Crumple or rip up the mistake sheet of paper and hang on to the lesson. Throw the mistake away in the garbage… and let this be symbolic to you… disregard the mistake, but hold the lesson it taught you.

The following is a story that demonstrates holding onto or letting go of something… It is taken from Eckart Tolle’s book, “A new Earth”
