2. The Beatles were an English rock band that formed in Liverpool, in 1960. The members of the group were John Lennon (1940-1980), Paul McCartney (born 1942), George Harrison (1943-2001), and Ringo Starr (born 1940). They came from arm families. Their earliest influences include Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Little Richard and Chuck Berry.

3. First, in 1957 John Lennon formed a skiffle group «the Quarrymen» with several friends. Then, Lennon met McCartney and Harrison. They originated with Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best a new band «The Beatles». In 1960 the Beatles had a concert at a club in Hamburg. In 1961 the band consisted of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Ringo Starr. The Beatles became famous after their concert at the Cavern Club. In 1963 they recorded the debut album «Please please me».

4. Since 1963 the Beatles have been very popular in all the world. They had many concerts and tours, released 13 albums, have been awarded 6 Diamond albums, 24 Multi-Platinum albums, 39 Platinum albums and 45 Gold albums in the United States, 4 Multi-Platinum albums, 4 Platinum albums, 8 Gold albums and 1 Silver album in the UK. The Beatles is the best-selling band in history. Their greatest hits are «Yesterday», «Hey, Jude», «Let it be», «Twist and shout», «Here comes the sun» etc.

5. In 1970 the Beatles broke-up. People who Beatlemania has think it was because Paul McCartney. They each enjoyed successful musical solo careers. In 1980 Lennon was shot and killed. Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001. McCartney and Starr remain musically active.

6. The genre the Beatles’ music is a mixture of rock’n’roll, pop and folk rock. Lennon and McCartney wrote many lyrics and music for songs that are very popular now.
