2. Scenario #1 Greece Get Greece and Turkey to join NATO Send $400 million in economic and military aid IT WORKS! The Communists are pushed out Turkey The US dispatched military aid to ensure that Turkey would retain chief control of the Dardanelles passage. Turkey received $100 million in economic and military aid American nuclear weapons/missiles were sent to Turkey in 1959, and were considered to be a symbol of the American commitment to Turkish defense.

3. Scenario #2 Korea 1 st military action of the Cold War We send troops to defend the South from the Northern invasion Conflict ended with a cease- fire agreement, but no treaty ever officially ended the war. There is still tension and conflict along the DMZ

4. Scenario #3 Cuba The US sets up a blockade around Cuba, preventing more weapons, supplies and food from coming in until they set up a negotiation with the Soviet Union. The US agrees to pull its nuclear weapons from Turkey if the Soviets pull theirs from Cuba. The negotiations work! The US agrees to leave Cuba alone forever and never attack them

5. Scenario #4 Afghanistan Soviet Union goes to war with Afghanistan (Islamic fighters = mujajideen) The US sends weapons to mujahideen forces and war lords The US puts a trade embargo on the Soviet Union (grain and weapons) and boycotts the 1980 summer Olympics in Moscow Operation Cyclone= CIA operation that sent $3 billion in weapons and aid to mujahideen forces. Later these forces become the Taliban and terrorist groups we fight in 2002-present
