Local Directgov What we do Working with the supersites: NHS Choices Directgov Businesslink Working with Local Authorities

What is Local Directgov? The Local Directgov application takes customers from the Directgov website to the most relevant web page on their local council’s website in just four mouse clicks. It holds a list of >240 citizen-facing services that are provided by local councils in England. It provides an interface for authorities throughout the UK to update and maintain PSC links (EU Services Directive) Councils decide which page on their website is the right one to match each service, where appropriate, and these are added regularly to the Local Directgov database by a designated web portal officer in each council.

How it works: the customer journey Find out more about Council Tax

How it works: the customer journey

What we do We provide an easy to use interface for councils to update their links(by spreadsheet, scheduled XML or via screen online), with support from the LDG team We work closely with councils to react quickly to new situations We do regular checks to ensure links are relevant and working We work with the supersites to maintain local links as central government information is converged. We work with the supersites to promote local empowerment and seek ways to deliver real benefits to our key stakeholders We encourage councils to use Local Directgov links to link up services on their websites to the websites of their neighbouring areas

Working with the supersites Work in background to align ‘supersites’ where possible to make it easier for Local Authorities (standards, consultation, etc.) Look at how we can collaborate at a strategic level to ‘shape a deal’ which works for Local Authorities Make people aware of the opportunity with Directgov now to syndicate content

www.nhs.uk 8m visitors a month Digital entry to the NHS –Health and well-being information and advice –Compare hospitals and GPs (including patient comment and feedback) –Directory of local health and related services –Interactive tools, widgets and downloads

Syndicating content to local councils Free content Tailored to suit council style and branding For the user, looks and feels like Brent / Camden council website (i.e. no link to external website) Since November, 34 councils applied for content (100 expected by end of the year)

More information www.nhs.uk/aboutNHSChoices/professionals/syndication/ Pages/Localauthorities.aspx

Directgov – Public services all in one place Most visited UK government website (Hitwise) More visitors rate Directgov as 'up to date’ and 'a trusted source of information' than they rate eBay, Amazon, Tesco and Google (Brand Tracker, November 2009) 25.8 million visits Feb 10 8 out of 10 visitors would recommend the Directgov website to a friend and visitors rated it as being better than the BBC for providing official and accurate information (Brand Tracker, November 2009) 79% rate as good/very good (Customer Monitor Jan 10) Mobile and TV services

Directgov syndication pilot All Directgov articles, news and contact us pages will be available to partners and developers on a first-come-first-served basis The content will be available in a range of formats to determine what works best. The feed will include main content (text only) from the body of the page. All the design elements, navigation and related links will be stripped out. Pilot partners will be given access to a syndication platform where they can view all pages available for syndication and then use chosen content within their webpages. An access key will allow us to track what content is being taken by partners and developers There will be a requirement for accreditation of content to Directgov. At a minimum, this will be a text accreditation. Tools and transactions cannot be distributed via syndication, this requires different technology ; images and video are removed due to rights restrictions. The pilot will run until the full service is operational, and will inform the development of that service. 19 Electronic License Management System (ELMS) LA decides whether to use own form or ELMS form Over 200 licences on ELMS Need content on LA site Form contact number chosen by LA Are you getting calls – if so please feedback to: http://elmsportal.businesslin k.gov.uk/feedback More info on PSC at http://www.bis.gov.uk/servic esdirective

PSC-some handy tips You must supply your links information to us as well as configuring your ELMS forms Contact us if you want to revert to hosting the applications on your own site if you put ‘N’ against any service interaction, it will render all interactions for that service as non-applicable. Follow our advice and leave LGIL 9 blank if you have no local regulations for that service please do not supply us with URL links that are not yet live. put meaningful URLs in your PSC Collection spreadsheet, don't just point repeatedly to the licensing home page remember, when you are filling in your spreadsheet, you must use X against LGILs 11, 14 and 31 if you have set 0 to an X

Working with Local Authorities We are exploring some ideas with local authorities including: Syndication of content Sharing knowledge Revising the services we link out to Identifying useful links on the supersites which LAs can use on site or in contact centre Let us know FAQs you can’t answer!
