TEN LIES ABOUT GOD “God Does Not Know Our Decisions before We Make Them” 02/28/2010 Dr. Dane Boyles

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” –The idea that God knows all things has bothered a lot of people throughout the ages. –One of the common ideas about the future is that God knows only potentialities, not actualities. –This is what’s called the openness of God.

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” –Faustus Socinus (1530-1604) didn’t outright deny God’s omniscience, but just redefined it. –Since that time many other philosophers and theologians have said the same thing.

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” –Basically, that God’s knowledge is just like ours. –There are 2 ways to reason: From the bottom up: start with yourself and your own intelligence.

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” Start with God: submit your intelligence to the Word, Will and Power of God (= the reality of God). 9 Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. (Psa. 46:9)

Psalm 46:10 10 I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.

Psalm 147:5 5 Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.

Isaiah 41:21-22 21 “Present your case,” says the LORD. “Set forth your arguments,” says Jacob’s King. 22 “Bring in your idols to tell us what is going to happen. Tell us what the former things were, so that we may consider them and know their final outcome. Or declare to us the things to come,

Isaiah 41:23 23 tell us what the future holds, so we may know that you are gods.

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” –The taunt is so sarcastic! 23 tell us what the future holds, so we may know that you are gods 24 But you are less than nothing and your works are utterly worthless; he who chooses you is detestable. (Isa. 41:23-24)

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” THE ACCURACY OF PROPHECY. –What about hundreds prophecies in the Bible? Judas’ betrayal Jesus? 52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. (Matt. 26:52)

Matthew 26:53-54 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” The death of Christ was a certain event from before the creation of the world. 27 Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. (Acts 4:27)

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” 28 They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen. (Acts 4:28) 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. (Acts 2:23)

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” 34 Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.” (Luke 22:34) 19 “I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am He. (John 13:19)

Daniel 11:2 2 “Now then, I tell you the truth: Three more kings will appear in Persia, and then a fourth, who will be far richer than all the others. When he has gained power by his wealth, he will stir up everyone against the kingdom of Greece.

Daniel 11:3 3 Then a mighty king will appear, who will rule with great power and do as he pleases.

Daniel 11:4 4 After he has appeared, his empire will be broken up and parceled out toward the four winds of heaven. It will not go to his descendants, nor will it have the power he exercised, because his empire will be uprooted and given to others.

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” THE OMNIPOTENCE OF GOD. – There’s a relationship between the fore- knowledge of God and the omnipotence of God.

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” THE TRUSTWORTHINESS OF GOD. –Can you trust God? –Can you trust a God who doesn’t know what will happen to you tomorrow?

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” When Satan sinned. When Adam and Eve chose to disobey. That Cain would kill Abel.

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” GOD’S PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF US. –God knows us entirely. 1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. (Psa. 139:1-2)

Psalm 139:3-4 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” 5 You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. (Psa. 139:5) Even if I have no idea what I am going to say next Thursday afternoon, God does.

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” –God knows us continually. 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? (Psa. 139:7)

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” –God knows us prophetically. 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. (Psa. 139:13-14)

Psalm 139:15-16 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Psalm 139:16-17 16 All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!

Psalm 139:18 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” A PERSONAL RESPONSE. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psa. 139:23-24)

“God Does Not Know Our Decisions…” There’s so much in our hearts that we can’t see unless God reveals it to us. –Searching leads to testing and testing leads to leading. –Are you willing to pray that prayer? 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
