2 Who are “Skills for Health”? 1 of 19 Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) across the UK Licensed by UK Government through the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) Cover - NHS, voluntary and independent health services. UK-wide ‘Not for profit’ Charity

3 What SfH is asked to do? Work collaboratively with employers and the wider sector to improve workforce skills development by collective action – to improve patient care. Identify Sector workforce needs - Provide a health employer voice in workforce skills development. Improve Workforce Skills – Develop and implement skill strategies embracing qualifications and career frameworks – appropriate to each country Develop and Manage Workforce Competences – Build, use and maintain comprehensive national workforce competence frameworks, embracing national occupational standards.

Influence Education and Training Supply to meet sector needs – Influence curriculum relevance and design Evaluate and improve – Evaluate the impact of the above to improve workforce planning and development across the UK health sector. Innovate – Design solutions and approaches to enhance workforce planning, efficiency and training (workforce re-design tools, DRS, E-learning)

10 Development of Core Skills Training Framework - Wales a key driver and supporter Builds upon similar developments which have already been progressed in Wales Through contribution of Helen Thomas (WfIS) who has coordinated a Wales response The review and support of the Wales Strategy Groups whose feedback has helped shaped the framework Organisations and individuals who contributed to the consultations

Director for Wales (Anne Clarke) can liaise directly with organisations to understand local skill priorities and advise how best Skills for Health can support given available expertise, experience and tools.

18 Key Points The framework is... –About setting a minimum standard –Providing a common script for organisation education and compliance leads –Reflecting key subjects but organisations will have other mandatory training needs as well –Does not dictate the format of how the subjects should be delivered –About being maintained
