2 * Name two things that surprised you about Lincoln’s biography. * If you could ask Lincoln a question, what would it be?

3 * Form : Affects what the writer can say to his or her audience. Examples are speeches (prepared for a specific audience) and proclamations (legal documents that announce official business). * Diction: distinctiveness of speech, speaking clearly so that each word is clearly heard and understood to its fullest complexity and extremity, and concerns pronunciation and tone. * Audience * Tone

4 * Read both The Emancipation Proclamation and The Gettysburg Address on your own. Annotate for: * Purpose and audience * Similarities between the two in audience, tone, diction, etc. * Don’t forget to number the lines * Use the gold lit book (pages 564-567) as a resource to help you gain context and define unknown vocabulary
