Installing the Dashhawk software in windows Vista:  The purpose of this guide is walk you through the steps of installing the software on a Windows Vista PC.  There may be a couple of screens that aren’t in this guide. The Vista software asks for permission to proceed whenever a program is started.  Just be aware that they are there so that the installation doesn’t throw you for a loop when it comes up.

Vista Dashhawk software Installation page 3 It really doesn’t matter what is entered here, just make sure the Anyone who uses this computer option is checked off and left click on the next button. At this point the installer asks for the location where is should install the software. I wouldn’t recommend changing this location. Just left click on next.

Vista Dashhawk software Installation page 4 The installer Summarizes what its about to install. Just left click on the next button. The installer starts installing the software and copying files. At this point just let the installer software do its thing. DON’T CLICK ON THE CANCEL BUTTON!

Vista Dashhawk software Installation page 5 This is an installer error screen. If you get this screen, you need to download the latest version of the Dashhawk software off of the www.Dashhawk.com website. What this means is the computer doesn’t have Microsoft.NET framework version 2.0 or later installed. You can download and install the latest version of.NET framework for free from the Microsoft website. The latest version of the Dashhawk software has an updated version of.NET framework and will automatically install it if necessary.

Vista Dashhawk software Installation page 6 Once the installer is done and the installation is successful this screen is displayed. Left click on the finish button. Before anything else is done the computer needs to be rebooted.

Vista Dashhawk software Installation page 7 Be advised that Windows Vista DOES NOT have a start button that actually says start unless you turn off some visual features. This is what the start button looks like in Vista by default This is what the start menu looks like with the visual features turned off in Vista.

Forcing the drivers in Windows Vista 2 When the system properties page comes up, locate the Device manager and Left click on it. Once the device manager displays, remember that everything inside it is in alphabetical order. Look for the main category “Other Devices.” If there is no category listed as “Other Devices” make sure the Dashhawk is plugged in, and that the Dashhawk isn’t listed under “Ports (COM &LPT).” If the Dashhawk is already listed under “Ports (COM & LPT)” you shouldn’t need to force the driver.

Forcing the drivers in Windows Vista 3 Double left click on the Dashhawk under “Other Devices.” When the Dashhawk properties page comes up, left click on the “Reinstall Driver” The Found New Hardware wizard will start. Left click on the “Locate and Install driver Software” option.

The installer may give you this warning just left click on Install this driver software anyways. Once the installer is done it will come up with a successfully installed screen. The installer might prompt you for the drivers once again just walk through the driver installation again and this is what the finished deal should look like.
