Place a white paper at each chair Give each student 1 piece of each color of red, yellow and blue paper Put a pencil at each spot for student to write name Place 3 glue bottles at each table Give each student a large strip of black paper that they will cut to the sizes they need Make sure each student has a pair of scissors Docent Setup List: Docent Clean up List: ●Make sure names are on back of art ●Place completed artwork on drying racks with your teacher's name ●Wipe down tables, sharpen pencils, refill any items if needed and return to where you found them-Thanks for doing this and leading the lesson! Today’s Lesson Today you are going to use colored paper to create a Mondrian inspired artwork using primary colors and black strips of paper. Skill Development: Art@Booksin ●To introduce students to the artwork of Piet Mondrian ●To give students the opportunity to practice their cutting skills ●To practice using liquid glue bottles. (Not too much, not too little, just right) ●To review the three primary colors

WHO IS PIET MONDRIAN? Art@Booksin ●BORN: Amersfoort, Netherlands-March 7, 1872 ●DIED: New York, NY-February 1, 1944 ●He was a painter who was an important leader in the development of modern abstract art and he supported the Dutch abstract art movement known as De Stijl(“The Style”) ●He is known for a form of art which he called neoplasticism. This consisted of white background, upon which was painted a grid of vertical and horizontal black lines and three primary colors ●Piet Mondrian became a primary school teacher and he painted in his spare time

PIET MONDRIAN AS AN ARTIST ●Mondrian’s developed his signature geometric style between 1915 and 1920 ●Mondrian chose to focus on geometric shapes rather than referencing the real world in his artwork ●He used horizontal and vertical black lines with various thickness which he then complemented by blocks of primary colors

Let’s get started.. Supplies Needed: White paper Pencil Colored paper Black paper Glue Scissors Art@Booksin

1.Write our name on the back of your paper 1.Take your colored paper and cut your geometric shapes(rectangles and squares) PLAN OUT YOUR ART PIECE BEFORE YOU GLUE IT DOWN!! 1.Glue your colored squares on your paper creating your piece of artwork 1.Once you have glued all of your primary colored squares down take your black strip and cut it to the sizes of black strips you need to finish your artwork 1.Make sure you leave some white showing Art@Booksin
