Twenty years later he painted like the painting on the bottom right.

5 Piet began painting in a new style.
Piet painted basic lines, shapes, and colors because he wanted to create a new style of art, modern art.

9 Piet Mondrian thought painting a good design was more important than showing emotion in his art.
He used only black, white, gray, and the three primary colors! Red, blue, and yellow.

13 His images became more and more abstract.
Piet moved to New York City. Mondrian was inspired by the city’s soaring skyscrapers, bright neon lights, and night clubs.

30 Recently two popular shoe companies have used Mondrian as inspiration for a new shoe line.
Utilizing the Van’s Authentic, the shoes feature Mondrian’s famous grid work.

32 The Piet Mondrian Dunk Low shoe does carry a fresh look in a simplistic way, one should consider the history of the inspiration. The multicolored color-way is inspired by the artist Piet Mondrian and one of his 1921 piece “Composition with Red, Yellow and Blue” which uses thick black lines to separate the color forms.

33     Mickey Mondrian (1976). Tracking the full extent of Mondrian’s influence today is an impossible task, as well as being a great painter he’s inadvertently become one of the most influential graphic designers of the 20th century. Those abstract patterns get everywhere; Mondrian Espresso, anyone? So I’ll end with a witty painting by artist and designer Mick Haggerty

34 The next painting is his most famous and the last one before his death.

35 “Broadway Boogie Woogie”

36 What do you see? Does it remind you of anything? What colors do you see? What shapes?

37 Do you think it’s beautiful?
Does it have any other function, besides to look at? How does it make you feel? Does it have line, color, texture, value, form and space? Does it look realistic?

38 This painting was done during 1942-43.
It was the last work by Piet Mondrian. The rhythmic patterns suggest the flashing lights of New York City theaters and billboards. Piet Mondrian caught a cold in 1944, which developed into pneumonia. He died at the age of 71.
