National Training Number Database on the Faculty Website: a proposal Carlos Hoyos Faculty Website Committee November 2002

NTN Database on the Faculty Website: a proposal Introduction Prospective Child Psychiatry SpRs have great difficulty choosing a scheme that suits them. There is no centralised resource where they can assess what each training scheme has to offer. In the mean time most training schemes have vacant posts and find it difficult to market themselves to prospective candidates. Outline The College Website committee in collaboration with CAPSAC proposes to create a database with information of all approved placements. This database would be available through the Faculty website. The information would be searchable, updatable and administered by the schemes, SpRs and trainers via the college website.

The New College Website The college website is undergoing an important transformation, it is becoming dynamic. Content is being deployed in a database from which the information on each page will be extracted. This allows for information to be updatable and editable directly from member’s computers. This will make the information richer, more up to date and relevant. The aim of this change is to make the College Website a resource that will provide information and facilitate communication between professionals. We hope the college website will become an information hub for child psychiatrists

In the first stage of this transformation members will be able to register and propose links and news to appear on the site. There will be a series of editors responsible for the revision of the content proposed by members. In a second stage live content such as articles and comments will be added to the existing links and news section. CPD online training will also be incorporated. In a third stage discussion boards will be accessible for each resource, training resources and debates would be hosted on the site. Collaborative projects with other institutions would be available. This is where a National Training Number Database should be included in the project. The New College Website

What is a dynamic website? Treatment of ADHD John Mill There are many ways to treat ADHD, but they all boil down to Ritaline. Of course Psychotherapy is important if you believe in those things, personally I think it is useful when the parents want it. ADHD, Treatment, Ritaline www.ritalin.co.uk Keywords go here Title goes here Author Website Text goes here Standard Dynamic Dynamic Pages have two main advantages over normal html: When several pages are based on the same format (like information about a post), we only need to design one page. In normal html we would need to write one page for each post. It is possible to use other pages (called forms) to put data into the database from any computer, and that data can be displayed on already made pages without the need for making a page with that information. Database Form

The Database Structure The database would be linked to the existing college database and would rely on it for information about members comments and Geographical areas. Information would be held within three tables one relating to schemes, another to posts and another to Placements. Placements would represent periods of time SpRs have spent on specific posts. Tables will be linked as shown in the graphic.

What the database could do… List all training schemes List all posts on each training scheme List all schemes with an inpatient anorexic unit List all trainings with empty posts The database could answer most questions prospective and current SpRs would have about training e.g.: Show me what the last three people who did this placement think Show me all comments from people in the Tavistock There is a possibility that the DB will also allow for comments on placements to be available to other SpRs e.g.:

Administration The success of any database depends of how well maintained it is. Information needs to be updated constantly in order to stay relevant. The new College Website gives every user the potential to update or edit the content of it’s pages. It is possible to give any user specific permission to edit limited areas of the database. Editorial responsibility for the training database should reside with those generating the information. We envisage four levels of editorial access to the training database.

Administration Each SpR should be responsible for the information regarding his/her placement, this would require an entry on the database each time he/she takes a new placement. Each Trainer should be responsible for the information on his or her post. This would require a one-off entry when the post is created, and a modification if the post is empty. Each Scheme coordinator would be responsible for the general information about the scheme. This would require a one-off entry for each scheme. There should be a General Training Editor who would be in overall control of the database.
