3. 2 BP’s approach to industry standards In all discipline sectors BP has taken a leading role in developing industry standards BP was a founder supporter of WITSML BP believes that industry standards are good for its business −More choice −Best in class technology may be selected −More space for innovation There is a clear opportunity for global adoption of WITSML in BP WITSML will become a key enabler for remote operations at regional drilling centres

4. 3 WITSML – The current status from the BP perspective BP would like to see wider engagement in the industry The standard should deliver plug and play connectivity – our business is oil development, we are not a communications company The standard must deliver reliable operation Real time remote drilling support is to become the normal way of working. Remote connectivity will be an essential part of drilling operations. There must be stability in the standard to deliver reliable operations – we cannot tolerate many different versions We want to encourage innovative technology and applications built around the WITSML standard Our Field of the Future programme is encouraging new ways of working – we expect WITSML to become the underlying communications standard for integrated drilling operations
