Microsoft Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment Customer Concerns Application compatibility issues are too difficult to overcome. Image management is too costly with our current hardware complexity. How can I reduce the cost of deployment if I have to send technicians to every single desktop? Will our infrastructure be able to handle automated deployments? Does desktop standardization really improve security levels? Is it worth the investment in additional IT and best practices training?

Microsoft Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment Deployment matters Shape Your Project for Success Know why you are deploying the new OS / Office version? Know and understand the trigger that is idiosyncratic to your organization. Identify the lead sponsors / powers that will enable a true strategic project approach – those who need it most. Determine/understand the value and benefits the project is expected to deliver – address pain points that can be solved by features comprised in the new product or that can be easily shipped with the project. Identify and qualify the requirements, both project side and build / product side – map them to specific features and configurations, processes. Know your risks and issues and plan processes for those you don’t know yet.
33
Microsoft Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment Deployment matters... Shape Your Project for Success Assess the lessons learned from a previous platform migration or similar projects; an ERP project is a valuable repository of such information. Know what has changed since and how it will impact this new project. Draw a work plan for feasibility study and impact analysis. Determine early who are your stakeholders, draw your responsibility matrix, sourcing/vendor strategy, involve trusted advisors when scoping and writing your RFP. Don’t hesitate to pilot with the most demanding users; their feed- back will drive key wins. Have end user and IT operations representatives on your steering committee, they need this new desktop more than you do! Get people who operate the current environment on your team; motivate them, get them trained; they will be your primary info source.
