3. Expectations for Behaviour We encourage all children to demonstrate a high standard of behaviour at all times in order to create a safe, respectful and happy learning environment. Each class has participated in the process of making a set of ‘Golden Rules.’ The children have agreed to follow the rules as they understand that this will help their learning. Respecting each other and all members of staff is expected and reflects the ethos of our school. The children are required to listen carefully and to develop their self control and concentration in class and in the playground. Working together with parents and guardians plays a big part in establishing good relationships and standards of behaviour.

4. Routines Homework: Weekend homework will be given out on Fridays to be returned on Mondays. Weekend homework includes: English Maths/Mathletics SPaG/Spellodrome and mental maths will be given on Friday and returned the following Friday. RE homework will be given out Wednesdays to be returned on Tuesdays. Homework will be written in their homework diary. PE kits: PE takes place every Monday afternoon. All children should have a named PE kit in school on this day. Please remember to supply your child with a named water bottle everyday.

6. New Curriculum The children will be expected to learn more at an earlier age. The SATs tests will also reflect this. September 2014 New curriculum introduced Revised National Curriculum to be assessed for the first time in May 2016 It applies to pupils at the end of key stages 1 and 2.

7. New Curriculum Calculations Divide numbers up to 4 digits by a two-digit whole number using the formal written method of long division. Solve addition and subtraction multi-step problems in contexts, deciding which operations and methods to use and why. Multiply simple pairs of proper fractions, writing the answer in its simplest form. Divide proper fractions by whole numbers. Measurements Use, read, write and convert between standard units, converting measurements of length, mass, volume and time from a smaller unit of measure to a larger unit, and vice versa, using decimal notation to up to 3 decimal places. Recognise when it is possible to use formulae for area and volume of shapes. Calculate, estimate and compare volume of cubes and cuboids using standard units, including cubic centimetres (cm3) and cubic metres (m3), and extending to other units.

8. New Curriculum Number and Place Value Read, write, order and compare numbers up to 10 000 000 and determine the value of each digit. Use negative numbers in context, and calculate intervals across 0. Round any whole number to a required degree of accuracy. Ratio and Proportion, Algebra, Shape and Statistics are also statutory requirements in the Year 6 Maths Curriculum.

9. New Curriculum Reading skills Drawing inferences such as inferring characters' feelings, thoughts and motives from their actions, and justifying inferences with evidence. Predicting what might happen from details stated and implied. Discuss and evaluate how authors use language, including figurative language, considering the impact on the reader. Preparing poems and plays to read aloud and to perform, showing understanding through intonation, tone and volume so that the meaning is clear to an audience. Writing skills Write legibly, fluently and with increasing speed. Identify the audience for and purpose of the writing, selecting the appropriate form and using other similar writing as models for their own. Selecting appropriate grammar and vocabulary, understanding how such choices can change and enhance meaning. Use spelling patterns to confidently spell a range of words.

10. The reading test will be a single paper with questions based on three passages of text. The children will have one hour, including reading time, to complete the test. The grammar, punctuation and spelling test will consist of two parts: a grammar and punctuation paper requiring short answers, lasting 45 minutes, and an aural spelling test of 20 words, lasting around 15 minutes. Children will sit three papers in maths: Paper 1: arithmetic, 30 minutes Papers 2 and 3: reasoning: 40 minutes per paper.

11. Scaled Score Scaled scores will be used for reporting curriculum test outcomes. The National standard will be 100. The raw score that equates to 100 might be different each year. (The total number of marks that equates to 100 each year may vary)

12. Trips We are delighted that all of the children will be coming on our PGL trip to Osmington Bay next May. A meeting for parents/guardians will take place nearer the time.
