1. Hamlet Group Skits One requirement for the Hamlet unit is a performance of a scene from the act assigned to your group. In groups (4-5 per group), you will: -Translate the scene you are assigned into modern day English (you may choose the setting) – make sure that each group member has a major role – if a scene is short you may add to it. -Write your translation in proper script form, including dialogue, setting notes, stage directions, and acting notes. -Make sure that the modernization covers what is in the text. -You may perform it live or pre-record for presentation (Time: 10-15 minutes) **HAVE FUN!!! Hamlet Group Skits Rules for Script Writing -Introduce Act and Scene number -Describe the setting (these are your setting notes and come right after the introduction of the Act and Scene) -Place characters’ names to the left leaving a gap between their name and speech (you might need to tab over twice before you begin the speech as some characters’ names may be long) -Begin a new line for each speaker -Do not use speech marks (quotation marks) -Use present tense stage directions (movements) and gestures in brackets and italicized to describe the speech or actions. (Stage directions indicate the general setting and the movement of characters on stage). Here is an example: Act 1, Scene 1 Outside an old, green vinegar bottle. Narrator:Once there was an old woman who had the bad luck to live in a vinegar bottle. (OLD WOMAN enters carrying a mop and bucket.) Old Woman:(grumpily) It’s a scandal! Nobody should have to live in a vinegar bottle, least of all me. I’ve worked hard all my life and this is all I’ve got to show for it. One nasty, cold bottle. And the smell of the place. It’s awful! It doesn’t matter how often you wash it, you can never get rid of it! (She bangs the bucket down and throws her mop to the floor.) I’m so fed up! What I need is a good fairy to grant me a wish. (There is a sudden flash of light and a tinkling of music. The GOOD FAIRY enters.) Good Fairy:Did someone call? Old Woman:(gulping) Um, it was me. I was just saying that I could do with a good fairy to grant me a wish. Good Fairy:(sweetly) And here I am. What do you wish for?
