EDU620: Meeting Individual Student Needs With Technology Instructor: Deborah Moerland Alia Sara Ward July 21, 2015 Technology, UDL and the Community at Large

There will be a community impact meeting. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss a grant that will increase the amount of technology that is currently being used in schools throughout the community. This event will offer the community the ability to interact with teachers and staff members from local schools as well as with local representatives. Introducing the Need for New Technology

There will be tech stations created as a means to allow for community members to understand the types of technological tools that will be made available to the local schools and community centers. There will be four stations made available. One station will have four laptops which will have different programs preprogramed to allow for easier access to the tools that schools will be using. The Importance of New Technology

The next station will further explain and give rise to the need for increased technologies in the classroom and communities. This station will be a research station. This station will show the different ways in which a topic can be researched along with personal opinions from other students’ as to their view of a certain subject matter. This station will also have staff members from surrounding schools and community centers to explain different options and why this form of technology is needed.

Community members will also be informed of teaching methods with the focus being on Universal Design for Learning (UDL). There will be teachers and staff members at one station to explain this teaching method. The UDL method will allow for easier understanding of lessons being taught for students’ of all grade levels. This concept will be further discussed by teachers and staff members there will also be audio examples of UDL in action. UDL and the Community

The purpose of technology in the classroom and in community colleges serves as a means to facilitate learning and creativity. This can be accomplished in many ways. By promoting and modeling creativity with the use of technology will allow students to feel more comfortable in expressing themselves. By being creative in the classroom and showing students a new way of problem solving this will enhance their imagination and creative skills. Creativity through the use of technology is a very important aspect of student learning. Students are individual’s which means that they have different ways of learning and understanding new concepts. By showing students multiple methods of solving a problem it will make understanding a lot easier for the student body. And this is much more achievable by using technology in the educational setting. Innovation in the Community

By having a grant approved that strives to make technology more readily available in the educational there will be many benefits for adults and children. This grant will open the door for many different forms of technology to be used in the educational setting. The technology that will be used will allow for students to understand the different ways that concepts and ideas are understood by different people. The ability to use technology in the classroom allows for diversity in the lesson. This diversity gives way to new connections not just on a local level but an international level as well. By allowing students’ to use technology they can now communicate with students’ across the world.. Innovation in the Community cont.

Students’ can create and discuss different ideas that will increase their level of understanding of different concepts. By giving students’ the ability to connect with different forms of technology engages them and gives them the ability to collaborate with other students’ also allows students’ to be more creative with communication skills and reading and writing skills Technology and UDL

Today’s classroom provides students’ with the ability to learn and access information in many different ways this is especially due to the use of technology. The use of technology with increase understanding as well as the need want and enthusiasm to learn. This can be accomplished through a wide range of activities that will incorporate the use of the Internet, audio visual aids, as well as tablets and management tools that will allow students’ to organize their thoughts and ideas. Technology and UDL cont.
