Iroquois

2. Tools Adz- A tool somewhat like an ax.
Awl- A small pointed tool to punch holes in bark or leather.
Flint- A very hard stone that will chip to a sharp edge.
Chisel- A long tool having a strong blade with a sharp edge at one end for cutting or shaping wood or stone.

3. Weapons
Tomahawk- The Iroquois Indians used these as hunting tools and war weapons.
Lance- They would create especially long lances that were used by horse riders to knock off their opponents from their animals.
Bows- Iroquois hunters used these weapons to get food and clothing.

4. Food They ate berries, roots, greens, nuts, and fruits.
Iroquois fish, and eat large quantities of salmon, trout, perch and bass.
The Iroquois also ate big game such as deer, elk, and bears.

5. Clothing
The Iroquois killed bears for a blanket and a coat to use in the winter.
They also killed deer so they could wear them anytime they want to.
They scarped sheep skin off for thicker coats.

6. Location
The original homeland of the Iroquois was in upstate New York between the Adirondack Mountains and Niagara Falls.
In the United States, much of the Iroquois homeland was surrendered to New York Land speculators in a series of treaties following the Revolutionary War.

7. Language Iroquois had ten different types of languages they spoke.
Some of the languages they spoke from were Cherokee, Mohawk, and Oneida.
The Iroquoians shared languages with different tribes.

8. Shelter
They lived in a longhouse made by elm bark covering, and poles made from wood that was the frame.
They put corn in the longhouse and dried the corn.
The longhouse is the only type of shelter they had.

9. Transportation
Sometimes the Iroquois Indians did use or dug out canoes for fishing trips, but usually preferred to travel by land.
Originally the Iroquois tribes used dogs as pack animals.
In wintertime, Iroquois people used laced snowshoes and sleds to travel through the snow.

10. Contributions They made pottery like today. They made very many tools.
They built there own houses with the tools that they made.
They used canoes to go on fishing trips.
