9 EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN AND THEIR PARTICIPATION IN POLITICAL LIFE 9 Women in Russia are active participants in social and political life (can be elected and be members of political parties and public entities). There are more than 70% of women as public servants (in the Federal Assembly of Russia – 7.9%; in the State Duma –14 %). The number of women in regional parliaments gradually increases. Growth tendency in women's role in the decision-making process in politics and business.

IMPROVEMENT OF THE DEMOGRAPHIC SITUATION – THE RESULT OF AN ACTIVE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE STATE DEMOGRAPHIC POLICY The number of births increased by 32% (the aggregate birth rate increased by 34%) The number of deaths decreased by 11.7% Active population mortality decreases more rapidly than total population mortality Maternal mortality decreased to 11.3 per 100,000 live births (215 cases of maternal death in 2013 in Russia) Life expectancy increased by 4.3 years – 71 years in average (65.4 years for men and 76,5 years for women) For the last 8 years:
