2 Governance / Mandate / Collaborations SARDC is an independent institution established in 1985 as a vehicle to support regional integration through information dissemination and knowledge generation Made up of institutes focusing on: Regional economic development Environment and water resources Gender and development Governance, peace and security China-Africa relations Have a long-standing MOU with the SADC Secretariat Also works closely with other SADC organisations and structures, including being an ex-officio member of the SADC Energy Thematic Group

3 Strategies / Programs / Activities Main strategy/mandate: o Tracking of regional policies, programmes and activities o Packaging of the information in an accessible format to influence decision making processes and policy formulation Implementing various energy information- dissemination projects: o Communicating Energy in Southern Africa Project SADC Today newsletter and Southern African News Features Maintenance of a SADC Energy Portal Policy briefs Production of SADC Energy Monitor, and Production of SADC Energy Investment Year Book Mainstreaming Gender in the SADC RE Sector Contribution to Global and SADC Renewable Energy Status Reports

4 EE Outcomes & Results Have been able to raise awareness through some of our publications, including SADC Today newsletter and SANF SADC Today newsletter produced in three official SADC languages (English, French and Portuguese) Information disseminated through: o bulk distribution of hard copies of newsletters and email distribution, and o Online mailing list for the news features The above strategies have enabled wider reach for SARDC knowledge products

5 EE Future Plans Greater awareness raising on regional EE strategies, polices, programmes and projects This could take the form of: o Report on effective practices o Creation of central online repository for relevant documents o Country factsheets o Policy briefs

6 Recommendations / Proposals for an EE Regional Coordination Approach Development of a functional mechanism for generation and sharing of information on EE initiatives o Central online documents will be a key component
