1. Gates County Schools Maintenance Department 2012-2013 Maintaining and Renovating Today’s Schools For Tomorrow’s Students

2. MISSION STATEMENT Gates County Public Schools Maintenance Department works daily to provide facilities that are safe, comfortable, efficient, and conducive to learning. We dedicate ourselves to provide professional services that repair, maintain, and modernize the educational and athletic facilities for the citizens of Gates County.

3. DEPARTMENTS AND STAFFING Our maintenance department consists of personnel responsible for a wide variety of maintenance duties within the school district Departments include Wastewater Operators, licensed Electricians, HVAC, Plumber and Boiler Operators, Custodial Supervisor, Building and Grounds Keepers, and Clerical

4. WASTEWATER PLANTS Maintain and operate wastewater facilities for all schools in the district Licensed operators are required

5. ELECTRICIANS & HVAC Responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical, fire, security, and HVAC systems Emergency call out as needed

6. PLUMBING Installs and maintains plumbing, piping, drains, water heaters, boiler piping, and related fixtures throughout the district These tank-less gas water heaters save the county $6,000 per year in energy costs

7. CUSTODIAL Responsible for servicing and maintaining floors, windows, hallways, lighting fixtures, ceiling tiles, bathrooms, and gym facilities On call for principals and emergency clean ups

8. GROUNDS MAINTENANCE & TRASH RECYCLING Maintain driveways, bus parking, trash facilities, storm drains, snow/debris removal, and outside athletic fields Oversees recycling program to maintain a greener environment

9. ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT Processes purchase orders, contractor paperwork, payroll, and work orders from all facilities. Other duties include tracking budget disbursements, coordinating daily office activities, and assisting the maintenance director as needed.

10. CARPENTRY AND ROOFING Responsible for maintaining and repairing doors, roofs, windows, locks, decks, exterior and interior steps and ramps in order to meet NC Building and ADA codes

11. FOOD SERVICE & KITCHEN FACILITIES Work with Food Service in repairing and maintaining their facilities, which includes refrigeration, electrical, and gas appliances

12. SAFETY TRAINING We provide OSHA, AHERA, Lead, and Mold Awareness Training to maintenance employees and custodians
