Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your experience, reading, studies, and observations.

What is the prompt asking you to do?  Think carefully about the issue presented in the following excerpt and the assignment below.  “A leader should never apologize for his or her actions because it shows a sign of weakness.” For a leader not to apologize or to show remorse is easier to do because s/he is denying his or her shortcoming, or choosing to ignore the issue at hand.  Assignment: What is your view of the idea that to apologize shows a sign of weakness? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your experience, reading, studies, and observations.

Write about what YOU know!  Don’t write in generalities  Be specific! Concrete! Detailed!  Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

Thesis Statement Review  Includes your opinion on the topic  Includes examples you intend to use to support your opinion  Find the Opinion  Find the Examples/Evidence “Those who are weak are those who have no strength to apologize. Those who never apologize are those who do not take the high road, and too arrogant and compare themselves to others as the being superior. They have no respect for those to whom they owe the apology. To be a strong and outstanding leader, one must apologize”

Thesis Statement Review  “I think there is a fine line between over and under disciplining your children. If a person over disciplines his or her children they will not appreciate the person and will rebel, but, if one under disciplines his or her children, he or she will not earn respect from their children.”  “When the people find out that their leader has done something wrong, the people will have more respect for a leader who acknowledge and apologized for their mistakes. It is better for a leader to apologize, or their mistake could cause them problems in the future.”

Thesis Statement Review  “Children need to be disciplined to become successful and content adults. Without control, they will become disrespectful, will confuse right from wrong, and will lack a structured environment in which to live.”  “ There are many elements that can lead to a generally held misconception; some examples of these factors are ignorance, persuasion, and bias. The general opinion may be harmless, however, when people are blinded by these opinions it can cause a predicament.”

Where are the transitions??  YOU MUST HAVE THEM You will often provide various examples and evidence to support your claims Transitions tie them together and give your essay unity and a tighter structure Without them, your essay reads in a choppy manner
