Focus of National Adoption Week 2014 The Sibling Bond – More Adopters Needed for Sibling Groups We are focussing on encouraging more people to come forward who can adopt siblings. The main message of the campaign is that without enough potential adopters who are able to give these children a home together, brothers and sisters will wait longer for a family or may even have to be split up and be adopted separately. Being placed with their siblings may not be right for every child, but it is a travesty if the shortage of adopters willing and able to adopt siblings is the only reason why brothers and sisters cannot stay together. © British Association for Adoption & Fostering 2008

Celebrating brothers and sisters To raise awareness about the importance of the sibling bond, we are planning a Pinterest/website page dedicated to brothers and sisters. This will be a celebration of the sibling relationship and will recognise the importance of the bond between brothers and sisters – raising awareness of why brothers and sisters should stay together if possible. We are asking people far and wide, not just people with an adoption connection, but anyone who has brothers and sisters who they love, to send in ‘selfies’ of themselves with their siblings, or photos from when they were children or as adults. We are asking people to tweet their sibling photos with our Twitter @baafadopt handle and #nationaladoptionweek and to post photos on Facebook. We are also asking for quotes to accompany pictures You can help us – send us your sibling selfies to press@baaf.org.uk © British Association for Adoption & Fostering 2008

Media Partner – This Morning This Morning We have had a highly successful partnership with This Morning for some years now and we are delighted to confirm them as our NAW broadcast partner for NAW 2014. We are aiming for videos of children waiting to be adopted to be featured every day during the week. There is also a possibility that we may also have a BAAF spokesperson or one of our Patron’s who has adopted such as Clare Grogan interviewed on the programme. All agencies putting children forward will receive a copy of the short films made by This Morning for use in further placement work.

Featuring children in national media Through our partnership with This Morning we are again offering the opportunity to feature children waiting for adoption in the national media. If you are interested please contact patricia.mcginty@baaf.org.uk If you are approached by other media to feature children waiting, you are more than welcome to work with them, but as we will not be involved in the process we strongly advise you to read though our “Practice Guidance on Featuring Children in the Mainstream Media”. You will find this on our website or you can call our publications team to obtain a copy on 020 7421 2604. © British Association for Adoption & Fostering 2008

National Adoption Week Radio Campaign On the first day of the campaign, Monday 3 November, BAAF will be taking part in interviews with local radio stations across the UK and your agency may get requests for interviews with any case studies of adopters you might have. We will not know which ones until the last minute, but if you would like to be informed if your local station is carrying an interview, please contact us. We cannot promise we will be able to let you know due to the time constraints, but we will do our best. © British Association for Adoption & Fostering 2008
